Will not allow communal flare-up, says SSP Reasi after religious place vandalised

Jammu, July 1: Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi Mohita Sharma Monday asserted that the miscreants, who wanted to create communal flare-up in the district would not be allowed at any cost and that the culprit would be booked under stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

She stated, “The district administration has decided to prepare an inventory of all small or big temples in Reasi and CCTV cameras will be installed there to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. This step will act as a major deterrence.”

SSP along with the Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Pal Mahajan was speaking to the media regarding steps being taken after vandalisation of a religious place, triggering protests in different parts of Jammu region besides Reasi, which observed complete shutdown amid protests.

Around fifteen people have been arrested in this case so far.

“We want to assure the people of Reasi that whosoever has done it, will be dealt with sternly. The culprit will be booked under PSA. People need to remember that miscreants, who indulge in such acts, have no religion. They do so to create communal flare-up and this will not be allowed,” she added.

DC Reasi also assured that stern action would be taken against the culprits. “This is my guarantee,” he told the protesters while appealing to them to stay calm.

SSP Reasi reiterated that a case FIR no 55/ 2024 U/S 295 IPC was registered in Police Station Arnas immediately after getting reports regarding this act and several persons were apprehended. Besides, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also formed, she added.
