Bandipora, Oct 21: Senior PDP leader and former minister Naeem Akhtar on Tuesday said Bandipora will be develop as a model district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a workers’ meet, Akhtar discussed the way forward and promised to work toward the betterment of the constituency.

“I promise Bandipora will become a model district in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said during the meeting.

Akhtar criticized his former PDP colleague and Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat, saying “he didn’t come up to me with any projects or suggestions for Bandipora,” while also suggesting the situation at the time acted as a bottleneck.

“All that I did was my own ideation,” he said, referring to projects like Wular Vantage Park, the Athwatoo tourist accommodation center, and the Mudhmati beautification and widening of the Bandipora–Sumbal road.

“I had walked these streets and places during my childhood and was motivated by that to do something for my native district,” Akhtar said.

Akhtar also promised that if elected to power, the youth in Bandipora would not have to “beg for jobs” anymore. He said avenues would be created so that the youth of Bandipora “will become job providers rather than job seekers.”

Akhtar also took aim at the ruling National Conference, saying the party had done little to address public suffering and emphasized "personal comfort" over public welfare, while referring to the present governance system and the lack of basic amenities.
