Will develop Gulmarg constituency on modern lines: Farooq Shah

Srinagar, Oct 10: The National Conference (NC) elected MLA from Gulmarg constituency Farooq Ahmad Shah on Thursday said that he will develop his constituency on modern lines.

He added that he has defeated the old enemy of the party in Gulmarg which was a big success for the party.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Legislature Party meeting, Farooq Ahmad said that defeating Ghulam Hassan Mir was a big success for the National Conference (NC), as he served the constituency for around 40 years.

"It was a big fight and we defeated the man who is an age-old enemy of the National Conference," he said.

Shah said that defeating Mir was possible only with the support of people who stood by him during his election campaign in the constituency. "I am thankful to the public for imposing trust in me and we defeated our opponent," the NC leader said.

Notably, the bureaucrat turned politician, Farooq Ahmad Shah first time contested elections and was given mandate for Gulmarg constituency. As per the official figures Farooq Shah defeated Ghulam Hassan Mir with a margin of 4191 votes.

Shah got 26984 from the constituency while 22793 votes were polled in favour of Ghulam Hassan Mir in Gulmarg constituency.

About his vision for the constituency, Shah said his mission was to develop Gulmarg constituency on modern lines. "My constituency (Gulmarg) has huge potential. We will make it an international destination," he said.

About the role of the government, Shah said they would press for the basic rights of the people, especially restoration of the Statehood to J&K.

"Our statehood should be immediately restored. Our commitment is to have a pro people agenda and the manifesto issued by our party leader will be implemented in letter and spirit," Farooq Shah said.
