Srinagar, Nov 6: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday described the resolution on Article 370 moved by the National Conference government in the Legislative Assembly as “half-hearted” and “lacking conviction”.

Addressing a news conference here, the PDP President said that the resolution intended to call for the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35-A fell short in language and intent.

“The language could have been better. This is a half-hearted attempt. We are thinking of bringing amendments to the resolution,” she said.

Mehbooba said that while NC’s resolution did acknowledge concerns about the 2019 revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, it failed to explicitly condemn the decision, which she described as “unconstitutional”.

“Instead of firmly calling for the complete restoration of Article 370, the resolution only suggested that dialogue be held on the matter. Dialogue with whom? The representatives of the BJP, who opposed the resolution even today,” she said.

Mehbooba said that PDP proved that numbers do not matter in opposition and that if the intentions are right, they would overpower.

“Our one man, Waheed-ur-Rehaman Parra initiated this,” she said.

“When Parra initiated it, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed it a “move for the cameras”, but today they are compelled to move this resolution,” Mehbooba said.

She said that the party was considering bringing amendments to the resolution to ensure it reflects the strong sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“This is not about taking credit,” she said. “PDP’s stance remains rooted in its commitment to its election promises, to fully oppose the revocation and seek its restoration.”
