Kupwara, Oct 20: Following the recent decision by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court about the rape and murder of a girl from north Kashmir, her family members Sunday said that they honour the decision of the High Court but would approach Supreme Court and challenge the decision there.

According to the decision, the death sentence of the four accused has been reduced to 25 years imprisonment.

Pertinently, four persons including Sadiq Mir, Azhar Mir alias Billa, both residents of Langate, Jahangir Ansari of West Bengal, and Suresh Kumar of Rajasthan were convicted of death sentence by Kupwara District and Sessions Court on April 24, 2015, following which they filed an appeal in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir against the death sentence.

In July 2007, a class 8th student from north Kashmir was subjected to a brutal assault by four men as she returned home from school.

While taking cognisance of this gruesome act, Police immediately swung into action and identified the culprits following which they were arrested.

Eighty-six witnesses were presented in the court during the trial and finally, District and Sessions Court Kupwara pronounced the death sentence against the culprits.
