Wildlife deptt warns strict action against illegal hunting of migratory birds
Srinagar, Jan 2: With thousands of migratory birds staying in different wetlands of valley, The department of wildlife protection has warned of acting tough against the illegal hunting of these migratory birds.
An official said that the wildlife protection department has warned of strict action against those involved or found in the illegal hunting of the migratory birds around the wetlands. “Illegal hunting of migratory birds in and around the wetlands is a serious offence under section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act. Strict action will be taken against violators under section 50 and 51 of the Act,” he said. Additionally, the individuals carrying firearms within a 10-kilometre radius of a wildlife sanctuary or National Park are required to register their firearms within the department of wildlife protection , as mandated by section 34 of the wildlife protection act, a general public notice issued by the wildlife department, wetlands said.
The official said that it has been observed that many offenders claim ignorance of these regulations , adding that it is to inform everyone that imprisonment of upto three years or fine upto Rs one Lakh or both penalties depending on the severity of the offence. He said that the general public is strongly advised to refrain from engaging in any form of illegal hunting of migratory birds. Violators will face strict legal action without exception, the officials added.
