WGAJK remembers iconic winter sports pioneer K K Sharma
Srinagar, Apr 14: The Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK) on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to its founder member and patron, K.K. Sharma, who passed away earlier in the day in Jammu after a brief illness.
As per a press statement issued, Sharma, a revered figure in the world of snow skiing and winter sports, was remembered for his lifelong dedication to nurturing talent and promoting winter sports in J&K and across India.
The WGAJK highlighted Sharma's great contributions to winter sports of Jammu and Kashmir in particular and to India in general.
Paying rich tributes President of the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir Rauf Tramboo said, “We have lost a great patron of winter and adventure sports who has tirelessly served snow skiing in Jammu and Kashmir. As an officer of YSS and as a skiing teacher, he didn’t only work for the promotion of winter sports but also produced a great number of skiing teachers and athletes who represented their country at international events.”
Tramboo said that Sharma, besides being a dynamic personality, was a noble soul and a thorough gentleman; we will hugely miss him, as the void created by his demise is hard to fill.
WGAJK Past President, Abass Wani, also paid profound tributes to KK Sharma: ” I am in shock. Sharma Ji was not only my teacher but a fatherly figure who used to enlighten me in every walk of my life. In his demise I have lost a friend, philosopher and guide.”
WGAGK general secretary Farhat Naik, while paying rich tributes to Sharma, said, ”K.K. Sharma's dedication and vision significantly shaped the landscape of winter sports, fostering growth and enthusiasm among athletes and enthusiasts alike. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
The members of the Winter Games Association extended its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to K.K. Sharma's family and friends during this difficult time, honouring his memory and the remarkable contribution he made in the world of winter sports.
