Srinagar, Aug 26: Outdoor sporting activities remained off from the action on Tuesday due to the intermittent rainfall in the Kashmir region.

Emraan Bhat, an organiser of a local tournament in Srinagar while speaking with Greater Kashmir said that there Tuesday’s fixture got washed due to rainfall.

“We had a knockout fixture scheduled today, but weather played a spoil sport. We have to reschedule the game now”, he said.

Bhat said that a cancellation of a fixture was not impacting only a single game but the entire schedule.

Tahir Ramzan, another organiser said that they too faced match cancellation on Tuesday due to the rainfall, stating that even if the weather improved from the next day, the play field will take a day to dry before the games are resumed.

“For the past few days weather has been erratic, but it is nature’s call, nothing can be done about it. Cricket lovers were anxious to see their stars performing. We will have to reschedule the fixture now”, he said.

Meanwhile, as per the officials, in view of the ongoing extreme weather conditions all concerned agencies have been put alert mode for rescue measures.

A senior officer from Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) said that following the ongoing extreme weather conditions in Jammu all concerned agencies were put on alert mode to carry out rescue operation in the region.

SDRF Kashmir in a tweet said that they have has also stationed it’s components and sub components at all district headquarters across the Kashmir valley and were fully prepared to respond to any exigency in view of the inclement weather.

As per weather department, there is a forecast of light to moderate Rain, thunder at many places with heavy to very heavy rain at few places of Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Kishtwar & Rajouri with extremely heavy rain in Doda, Kathua & Samba and moderate to heavy intense showers over Poonch, Ramban & Southern parts of Kashmir division on 26 August.

However, from 27-29 Aug, the forecast mentions brief spell of Rain/ thunder at few places.

“30 Aug-1 Sept: Moderate to heavy Rain thundershower in JMU Div. 2-5 Sept: Brief spell of Rain/thundershower at few places,” reads the MeT’s forecast.

The MeT’s advisory report states the possibility of intense, heavy to very heavy Rain, thunder at scattered places & extremely heavy rain at isolated places of Jammu division & moderate to heavy rain in South Kashmir during 26 August.

“Cloud burst/Flash floods at few vulnerable places with landslides, mudslides, shooting stones etc. Stay away from water bodies/Nallas/river embankments/loose structures etc. Water logging/flooding in Low lying areas of JMU Div,” the weather advisory adds.
