Top officials conduct dry run on NH 44 to review SANJY 2025 arrangements

Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former Minister Naeem Akhtar on Thursday issued a scathing statement describing an “unprecedented economic collapse” unfolding in Jammu and Kashmir. Akhtar warned that the situation is a “frightening reflection” of the current government’s failure, even before it has completed a full year in office.

Akhtar in a statement said the government has drastically curtailed public spending, pushing large sections of society to the brink. “Government infrastructure programs are barely functional. Contractors have lost interest in taking up new projects because their bills remain unpaid and are gathering dust in government offices,” he said.

 In a shocking incident, a large quantity of medicines were seen floating in a canal flowing through the Gundrehman area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

Locals watched astonished as thousands of strips of tablets, syrup bottles floating downstream. Locals said no one knows who dumped drugs in such large quantities into the stream.

Iran calls on UN to recognise US, Israel as initiators of ‘aggression’

 Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to recognise Israel and the United States as the initiators of the “aggression” against Iran.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNSC President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Araghchi on Sunday, urged the Council to fulfill its responsibility in maintaining international peace and security, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Gold, silver prices fall sharply this week; global trends, geopolitical easing behind dip

There’s good news for gold and silver buyers as prices of both precious metals saw a decline this week, bringing gold back below Rs 96,000 per 10 grams and silver under Rs 1.06 lakh per kilogram.

According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold is now Rs 95,784 per 10 grams, down from Rs 98,691 a week ago — a sharp drop of Rs 2,907.

Trump says he’s not planning to extend pause on global tariffs beyond July 9

President Donald Trump says he is not planning to extend a 90-day pause on tariffs on most nations beyond July 9, when the negotiating period he set would expire, and his administration will notify countries that the trade penalties will take effect unless there are deals with the United States.

Letters will start going out “pretty soon” before the approaching deadline, he said.

Trump also discussed a potential TikTok deal, relations with China, the strikes on Iran and his immigration crackdown.
