Srinagar, Oct 5: The valedictory function of a 30-day Intensive Sericulture Training Programme concluded today at the Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSR&TI), Pampore.

Organised by the Central Silk Board (CSB), the event celebrated the participants' achievements and acknowledged support from the Sericulture Development Department of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director of Sericulture J&K, attended as the chief guest.

In his address, Bhat emphasised the importance of such training programs in enhancing traditional sericulture practices in J&K.

He expressed gratitude to P. Sivakumar (IFS), Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board, and Dr M. Maheshwari, Director CSR&TI Pampore, for their support in strengthening the capacity building of field functionaries from the Sericulture Development Department J&K.

Bhat highlighted that these initiatives are crucial for introducing new techniques and innovations in sericulture, benefiting silkworm rearers and farmers. He noted that adopting improved methods would significantly boost cocoon and silkworm seed production across J&K.

The Director praised the human resource development efforts of the Central Silk Board and the Department of Sericulture J&K, stating that these programs enhance both cocoon production and quality. He emphasized the socio-economic impact of these training programmes, which empower local communities involved in sericulture by improving their livelihoods.

Bhat stressed the importance of continuous capacity building and training for field functionaries and silkworm rearers to ensure the adoption of modern practices. He reaffirmed the Sericulture Development Department J&K's commitment to further collaboration with the CSB, aiming to elevate the sector and benefit thousands of farmers and stakeholders across the region.

The function concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants of the 30-day intensive training program, marking a significant step forward in J&K's sericulture industry.
