We don’t want situation to deteriorate: Dy CM

Srinagar, Nov 3: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chaudhary Sunday expressed concern over the repeated attacks in Jammu and Kashmir soon after the formation of the government saying that such attacks need to be stopped. Talking to media persons after meeting the civilians injured in the grenade explosion at Sunday Market near the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar, the deputy chief minister said that the government was against terrorism and did not want the situation to deteriorate.

“We have never wanted the situation in J&K to deteriorate and we want peace and tranquillity in J&K," he said.

Referring to the grenade attack, he said it was a “matter of grief and bad luck for the government” as children and middle-aged people were injured in the attack.

“Our CM has already raised his concern over the issue and demanded that such attacks should be stopped. Why are they happening every day? What are the security forces doing,” the deputy CM said. He said that resorting to the blame game would not provide any results but the security forces needed to put an end to such attacks.

“We are against terrorism as the National Conference has sacrificed its workers and leaders,” he said.

Briefing about the condition of the injured civilians at SMHS Hospital, the deputy CM said that on the direction of CM Omar Abdullah, he and his cabinet colleague Sakina Masood (Itoo) who is also the health minister, met the patients and inquired if there was any requirement of help from the government.

“We came here to see if the injured civilians needed to be sent outside J&K for better treatment, but the hospital authorities have assured us that they will provide them the best possible treatment here,” he said.

The deputy CM said that the hospital administration had been asked to ensure better healthcare facilities are provided to the injured patients.

He said the incidents were taking place in J&K since the NC-led government had been formed.

“There is a need to think about why and how these attacks are taking place now. It raises a question and the security agencies will have to see how it is happening and how to stop it,” he said. The Deputy CM said that they were not ready to see the children getting injured in such attacks.

“Security forces need to take action and we hope that this is the last incident in J&K and no further such incidents happen again,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakina Masood (Itoo) said that the government was ready to provide all the support to the injured civilians.

“Our doctors here are capable and they have also tried to treat them well. The treatment is going on. We will do whatever is possible to save their lives,” she said.

However, she raised questions on the working of security agencies saying that there should not be such attacks.

“This is unfortunate and raises a question as to why such attacks are happening,” Itoo said.

She said that such attacks were taking place at a time when the earlier government was claiming that everything was fine and normal in Kashmir.
