Shock waves wash over the whole of Kashmir as innocent tourists fell victim to the evil forces in Pahalgam recently. It pains me to see the tourists crying and traumatized, mourning over the irrevocable losses. It’s a deed that even the worst of humans don’t endorse. It’s a tragedy. Words just fall short.

That said, I feel compelled to point out that Islam doesn’t approve of killings. Comments and seething anger and misplaced blame over social media target Islam for the violence. Far from it, the Quran clearly mentions that to kill one innocent human is to kill all of humanity.

Our country is already divided on many fronts; I wish people would stop dividing it on religious lines now. Evil has no religion. Religion is a deeply personal connection with God. It has nothing to do with terror. Terror is terror—something Luciferian. Nobody could hold Islam or any other religion accountable for it. Only humans—with polluted minds.

Besides, our security forces work tirelessly day in and day out, serving the people and risking their lives to protect ours. It’s unfortunate that the perpetrators were able to penetrate into the meadows and unleash terror. This tragedy must serve as a wake-up call. It’s time we brought reforms in the security apparatus of J&K. Nothing is more important than protecting human lives.

May God grant peace to the deceased souls. May He grant patience to the families.
