WAVES announces inaugural 'top selects' featuring 15 projects in 9 languages
Mumbai, Apr 25: The World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) has unveiled its first-ever 'Top Selects' lineup featuring 15 diverse projects across 9 languages ahead of the summit scheduled for May 1-4 in Mumbai.
WAVES Bazaar, described as the premier global marketplace for the media and entertainment industry, will showcase these selected projects through its Viewing Room, a dedicated physical platform where industry professionals can view and engage with new content. The Top Selects will be pitched to producers, sales agents, distributors, festival programmers, and potential investors during an open session at the Jio World Centre on May 2
The curated lineup includes 9 feature films, 2 documentaries, 2 short films, and 2 web series, representing the rich cultural diversity of Indian cinema with works in Tamil, Hindi, Haryanvi, Malayalam, Bengali, Magahi, Odia, and English. Notable selections include "The Wage Collector" (Tamil), "Putul" (Hindi), "Swaha In the Name of Fire" (Magahi), and "Gotipua - Beyond Borders" (English, Hindi, Odia).
The broader WAVES Viewing Room library will feature 100 films from 8 countries, including India, Sri Lanka, USA, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Germany, Mauritius, and UAE. The collection also includes 18 NFDC-produced and co-produced films, 8 restored classics from the National Film Archive of India, and 19 student projects from prestigious film institutes FTII (Pune) and SRFTI (Kolkata).
WAVES aims to position India as a premier destination for content creation and investment in the media and entertainment sector while promoting the "Create in India" initiative for global outreach. The summit represents a significant milestone for India's growing influence in the global media landscape.
