Waterlogging takes toll on Qamarabad residents
Srinagar, Jan 11: Residents of Qamarabad area of Qamarwari locality on the city outskirts have complained of severe waterlogging due to a lack of a drainage system.
“There is no proper drainage network in the area, which causes waterlogging. If water continues to seep into the foundation of houses, it will lead to permanent structural damage to our homes,” said a local.
The locals said that blockage of a drainage channel in the area also causes waterlogging. “Our area looks like a flood-hit area. Roads and premises of our houses are submerged. Accumulated water emits foul smell, and there is a risk of an outbreak of waterborne disease. We cannot navigate around our homes; unless the issue is addressed, we will continue to suffer,” said another local.
The aggrieved residents asked the authorities to take the necessary action to permanently resolve the issue by constructing a drainage system.
