Water supply project stalled: Usman Majid
Srinagar, Nov 13: Former Minister and Former MLA Bandipora, Usman Majid, on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the stalled progress of the Water Supply Scheme (WSS) at Onagam village in Bandipora.
In a statement, Majid said that the NABARD-funded project, worth Rs five crore, was launched to address the pressing water needs of the local community and is currently 60 percent complete. “However, construction has been abruptly halted due to the obstruction caused by a state land encroacher, who is blocking the site required for the construction of a critical water pump shed,” he said.
Majid said that, despite clear directions from the Additional Commissioner Revenue (ACR) to resolve the issue, administrative efforts have been repeatedly thwarted by political interference, resulting in further delays to this crucial infrastructure project.
He remarked that the obstruction of this essential initiative is causing unnecessary suffering for thousands of residents in Onagam, who have been awaiting reliable access to clean water for years.
