Srinagar, Jan 15: Director General of Police Rashmi Ranjan Swain Monday said that the ongoing battle against drugs was not directed at the general public but rather targets individuals involved in the illicit trade, aiming to disrupt their efforts to disturb the peaceful environment.

Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of the DGP’s public grievance redressal programme in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, R R Swain highlighted the significance of public collaboration in the fight against drugs and the need to counter the masterminds orchestrating the trade.

He acknowledged the indispensable nature of public support, considering the Police force as a service.

Expressing gratitude for the ongoing support from the public, Swain said, “This is not mere lip service but a sincere acknowledgement from my heart as public cooperation is of utmost importance.”

He said that the Special Police Officers (SPOs) were receiving significant support, and steps were being taken to regularise those who demonstrate commendable performance within the J&K Police force.

The DGP underscored the comprehensive assistance provided to SPOs recognising their selfless contributions.

He informed them about the ongoing initiatives like scholarships for their children and emphasised the efforts to regularise those making noteworthy contributions.

Explaining the decision to shift the meeting venue from Srinagar, Swain expressed the intent to actively engage with the people, promptly address their grievances, and provide immediate relief.

He commended the Police force for its exemplary professionalism in handling public matters and stressed the core responsibility of serving the public.

The DGP also pointed out the effective identification and actions taken against anti-social elements.

He made a distinction between those who influence innocent individuals and those who make mistakes for the first time, emphasising opportunities for redemption.

“Individuals who exhibit responsible and respectful behaviour will receive double respect from our side,” Swain said.

Highlighting the fundamental responsibility of interacting with the people, he said that senior officers consistently stress this aspect.

The DGP appreciated the conduct of the people of J&K.

He said that those who act responsibly and respectfully would receive respect in return multiplied tenfold.
