War against narcotics: 87 accused arrested, 28 convicted in Udhampur since January

Besides, the Police have seized narcotics, including Heroin, Charas and Ganja, worth 2.42 Cr; attached drug assets worth Rs 4.69 Cr attached and frozen 43 Bank Accounts during the same period i.e., January to June, 2025. A Police spokesperson said that the District Police Udhampur, while intensifying war against narcotics, have registered 61 cases under the NDPS Act.

“A total of 87 accused were arrested, including 80 under NDPS and 7 under PIT NDPS and PSA provisions. 22 vehicles used for narcotics transportation were seized. Additionally, 6 pharmacy shops were sealed for violating norms related to H1 drugs,” the spokesperson said. As part of financial disruption, 43 bank accounts linked to drug peddlers were frozen, involving an amount of Rs 16,72,948. “Seized contraband during this period was valued at Rs 2.42 Cr on the black market, including Heroin, Charas, Poppy Straw, and Ganja. Further tightening the grip on drug networks, Udhampur police attached properties worth Rs 4.69 Cr, including multiple vehicles, residential houses, and commercial assets related to both NDPS and bovine smuggling cases,” the spokesperson said.

Among the seized narcotics included 335.644 grams worth Rs 23,495,080; 1.106 grams of Charas worth Rs 3,31,800; 85.553 kg poppy straw worth Rs 2,56,059 and 100 grams of Ganja worth Rs 1 lakh. “Moreover, the Police have also successfully secured convictions against 28 drug peddlers in 21 cases from the courts, which marks the professional approach towards case investigation and prosecution,” the spokesperson said.
