Waqf bill designed to disempower Muslims: Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar, April 02: Former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, today said that the Waqf Amendment bill is designed to disempower Muslims.
“I don’t have any hope with BJP but have high hopes with secular Hindus, they must come forward as this country has to run as per the constitution,” she said, in her reaction over the Waqf (Amendement) Bill, 2024, which was tabled by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Lok Sabha today.
The former chief minister said that the Muslims in India have faced persecution, targeted lynching incidents, and encroachments on graveyards and urged the Hindus to rise against such injustices.
She said that the bill was a conspiracy to disempower Muslims, and in the last 10-11 years, Muslims are facing attacks, mosques have been demolished, and lynching incidents and encroachments on graveyards was common.
PDP President also said that the country was that of “Gandhi” and should be governed by the Constitution and not the agenda of BJP.
Mufti called on the Hindus to rise up against injustices so that India doesn’t become like Myanmar or Muslims don’t face the same situation as that of Kashmiri Pandits for which “we are ashamed.”
She said that the BJP is “breaking this country apart” and called on the people of India to unite and resist the divisive tactics “if we wish to preserve the fabric of our nation.”
She said that the measures to overtake the Waqf board need to be stopped.
