Waheed Parra booked for MCC violation
Srinagar, May 16: For conducting an unauthorised road show in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on April 27, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the Srinagar parliamentary constituency, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra has been booked for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), officials said Thursday.
The complaint was lodged by the Nodal Officer for the MCC and the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama.
The incident led to the filing of an FIR against Parra on May 8 under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for disobedience to an order promulgated by a public servant.
Senior Superintendent of Police’s report highlighted that despite repeated requests from the Station House Officer (SHO) of Pulwama Police Station and a duty magistrate to adhere to the code, Parra proceeded with the rally, risking his and others’ security.
The delay in response from Parra regarding the violation was deemed unsatisfactory by the authorities.
