VMS celebrates Int'l Day of PwDs with inclusive events
Srinagar, Dec 4: Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with enthusiasm and strong public participation at its Bemina campus, bringing together students, parents, medical professionals, legal experts, civil society members, and partner organisations to reaffirm collective commitment toward disability rights and inclusion.
The event began with an inaugural address by VMS Founder-President, Prof Mir Muhammad Maqbool, who reflected on the organisation’s decades-long work in rehabilitation, education, and support services for persons with disabilities. This was followed by a soulful recitation of the Holy Quran by visually impaired students.
Students of Shafaqat Special Inclusive School presented a skit.
HoD Bone and Joint Hospital, Prof Altaf Kawoosa, who was the guest of honour, delivered a detailed presentation on his 25-year experience in correcting disabilities using various surgical techniques, including modified Ilizarov procedures.
Principal SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Dr Fazl-ul-Qadir Parray, underscored the need to bridge clinical treatment with long-term rehabilitation, praising VMS for its role in delivering continuous care and improving the quality of life of beneficiaries.
