Visible change on roads after drive against traffic violations: SSP Traffic Rural

Ganderbal, Dec 21: Following the intensified drive by the authorities against the traffic violations across Kashmir including Srinagar city and rural areas, there seems a visible positive change on the roads with the commuters behaving in a disciplined way, officials said on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Ravinderpal Singh said that "we are seeing a positive change on ground and comparatively a visible decline in traffic violations with the people now behaving in a positive and disciplined way."

SSP said that the people should cooperate with the traffic police to ensure that traffic rules are enforced and followed in a strict manner. “ The extensive and intensive drive launched by the traffic police across the Kashmir has resulted into a significant reduction in traffic violations and the people have been seen behaving in a positive and disciplined way which is a good sign but our drive against the traffic violations will continue with main focus on the teenagers and those involved in rash and negligent driving so that the tragic incidents are minimised and avoided."

SSP said that after the installation of CCTV cameras in Srinagar city under the Intelligent Traffic Management System ( ITMS ) by the concerned authorities, such CCTV cameras will be installed at vital locations along highways in rural Kashmir to check and curb the traffic violations.

Regarding the continuation of the drive, the SSP emphasised the importance of collective effort. “If all stakeholders play their part, this menace can be eradicated entirely, ensuring fewer violations, reduced fatalities, and smoother commutes,” he said.

He also noted a visible shift in social behaviour, with more parents refraining from allowing their minors to drive and taking greater accountability.

On Saturday, led by the SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinderpal Singh, a team of police conducted a special drive against the traffic violations in Kangan town of Ganderbal district. On the occasion several vehicles were challaned for traffic violations. Officials in the traffic police department have stated that the drive aims to ensure road safety and prevent minors from operating vehicles, focusing on driving societal change. They said in the past over a month, thousands of vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, have been seized for various violations.
