Vigilance Awareness Week | Transparency shared responsibility not sole role of Government: DC Anantnag

Anantnag, Nov 3: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag Syed Fakhruddin Hamid Friday said that transparency is a shared responsibility of the citizens and not the sole responsibility of the government.

An official spokesman in a statement issued here said that speaking during an interactive session as part of the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ under the theme ‘Say no to corruption, commit to the nation’ here, the DC Anantnag reminded everyone present that transparency was not the sole responsibility of the government but a shared duty of every citizen.

To foster transparency and empower the citizens, district administration Anantnag, under the chairmanship of DC Anantnag S F Hamid hosted the interactive session and the DC threw light on the ill effects of corruption on overall development in the region.

He also emphasised the pivotal role that transparency and empowered citizenship could play in the fight against corruption.

Emphasising the significance of open dialogue, the DC called on participants to actively engage and collaborate in the collective mission of achieving a corruption-free society.

He also highlighted the transformative potential of digital services, stressing that these not only enhance transparency but also empower citizens by offering efficient, time-bound solutions to their needs, ultimately contributing to a responsive administration.

Hamid also provided a comprehensive overview of the grievance redressal mechanisms of the government, highlighting their effectiveness in addressing public complaints.

“This initiative aims to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen trust, fostering a culture of responsive governance and efficient complaint resolution,” he said.

The DC Anantnag said that the district administration always engages with the citizens, offers a platform for open and honest discussions, and acts as an inspiration for individuals to assume an active role in promoting transparency and accountability within their communities.

He said that the success of the potential for positive change was when citizens, auditors, business leaders, and RTI activists collaborate in the pursuit of a corruption-free society.
