Vidhi Kumar Birdi is new IGP Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 7: The Jammu and Kashmir government Tuesday posted Vidhi Kumar Birdi as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, and he would replace Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.

The order to this effect was issued by the J&K Home Department on Tuesday.
“Vidhi Kumar Birdi is posted as IGP Kashmir vice Vijay Kumar, IPS. In addition, the officer will also hold the charge of the post of IGP Armed Kashmir, till further orders,” the order reads.
V K Birdi, a 2003 batch IPS officer of the erstwhile J&K cadre – now AGMUT- has served in J&K in many capacities.

He also served in various capacities during his tenure on central deputation.

A Bachelor of Engineering and an MBA, Birdi, an outstanding IPS officer, was recently repatriated to J&K prematurely at the request of the J&K government.
At the time of his repatriation, he was serving as IG CRPF Jharkhand Sector.

After joining J&K Police in 2003, Birdi served as SDPO Kothibagh Srinagar, SP City East Srinagar, SSP Kupwara, SSP Special Security Group J&K, DIG North Kashmir Range (NKR) Baramulla, and DIG CKR Srinagar.
At the time of the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35 (A), Birdi was posted as DIG Central Kashmir range while S P Pani was Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone.

During his central deputation, the new IGP Kashmir served as SP CBI, DIG CBI, DIG NIA, and IG CRPF Odisha sector.
During his illustrations service in J&K and Centre, Birdi has been awarded the DGP J&K Commendation Medal, J&K PMG, PMG 3rd Bar, DG CRPF Commendation Disc, and PPMG.
