Vice President honours Suresh Gopi at Manorama News Newsmaker Award 2024 ceremony
New Delhi, Nov 16: Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday attended the Manorama News Newsmaker Award 2024 ceremony in New Delhi as chief guest, where he presented the honour to Suresh Gopi, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas and veteran film actor.
In his address, the Vice-President praised Gopi’s achievements in both cinema and public life, recalling his recent visit to Fatima Mata College in Kollam at the minister’s invitation. The visit, he said, reflected Gopi’s strong ties to his alma mater and to Kerala.
Radhakrishnan underscored the media’s duty to highlight positive stories that inspire young people and to amplify the voices of the marginalised. He said journalism plays a crucial role in combating drug abuse through awareness and responsible reporting. Against the backdrop of artificial intelligence and deepfakes, he cautioned that distinguishing truth from misinformation has become increasingly difficult, placing an even greater responsibility on the press. Quoting Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, he urged journalists to uphold truth with integrity. He also lauded the Manorama Group for its longstanding commitment to language, culture and credible journalism, calling Manorama News one of Kerala’s most trusted and influential media platforms.
