Vice President Radhakrishnan in Seychelles to attend Presidential swearing-in ceremony

New Delhi Oct 26: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Seychelles on Sunday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Wavel Ramkalawan, reaffirming India’s close and historic ties with the island nation.

India and Seychelles share a long-standing partnership in defence, maritime security, and development cooperation.

India has supported Seychelles through infrastructure projects, capacity-building initiatives, and community development programmes under various grant and credit lines.

Bilateral trade remains modest, with India exporting essential goods such as food items, cement, and medicines, while air connectivity through direct Mumbai-Mahe flights is boosting tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Seychelles is home to a vibrant Indian diaspora of over 13,000 people, primarily from Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, who play a key role in the local economy.

The Vice President’s visit reflects New Delhi’s continued commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership and deep-rooted cultural ties with Seychelles.
