Veteran scribe Ashwani Kumar bereaved

Jammu, June 28: Onkar Nath Chandra, retired Superintendent of Police and father of former Aaj Tak Bureau Chief and former president of Press Club of Jammu Ashwani Kumar, passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi late Thursday evening after a prolonged illness.

He was 89. Onkar Nath Chandra is survived by two sons Ashwani Kumar and Dr Shiv Kumar, retired Director DRDO and three daughters. According to family sources, Ashwani Kumar was by his side along with other members of the family when Chandra breathed his last. His last rites were performed at Cremation Ground, Naharpur, Sector -3, Rohini, Delhi this afternoon at 2.30 pm. Chandra hailed from Habbakadal area of Srinagar and later shifted to Jammu after joining the police services.

He served in Jammu and Kashmir for around 40 long years. Post retirement he devoted his entire life to active social service. People from different walks of life including friends, relatives from Kashmir and members of media fraternity across J&K have condoled the demise of Onkar Nath Chandra and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
