Srinagar, Sept 8: Veteran journalist and author Sankarshan Thakur has passed away, leaving behind a deep void in political journalism. Thakur, known for his incisive reporting and authoritative books on Indian politics, particularly Bihar, was widely respected across the country.

In Jammu and Kashmir, political leaders expressed grief over his demise. Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, in a post on X, wrote: “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Sankarshan Thakur. His work reflected depth, fairness, and integrity. A huge loss to journalism.”

NC Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also paid tributes. Mehbooba said Thakur remained “a fearless voice committed to truth.”

NC leader Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami) wrote on X: “Shocked to hear about the untimely demise of Sankarshan Thakur. His writings brought out the complexities of Indian politics with unmatched clarity. My deepest condolences to his family.”

On Thakur's demise, the Press Club of India stated, "We’ve lost a fearless voice in journalism". Praising his Praising his integrity in profession, it added that "His sharp political analysis and unwavering commitment to the truth will be deeply missed"

In a post on X, the Press Club of India wrote, "Senior journalist and editor of The Telegraph newspaper, Sankarshan Thakur passed away today. He was 63. We’ve lost a fearless voice in journalism. His sharp political analysis and unwavering commitment to the truth will be deeply missed. In this time of sorrow, the Press Club of India stands with his family, friends, and all who feel the weight of this loss."

Thakur authored several acclaimed books, including The Brothers Bihari and Single Man: The Life and Times of Nitish Kumar of Bihar, and had a long career with leading national dailies.
