Srinagar, July 9: A day after this newspaper reported about the student complaints that the SSM College of Engineering and Technology was charging hefty amounts as fines on those with attendance shortages, the college's principal said that some people with vested interests were trying to derail the ongoing admission process in the college.

of the students that SSM College was charging hefty fines for attendance shortages said no such incident was reported in the college.

“We have enquired from the student coordinators and faculty coordinators, and they have informed that there is no such instance reported regarding the imposition of fine having taken place or brought to their notice by any student of their department,” SSM College Principal Sajad Hussain Din said.

“It appears that some vested interest person or organisation has taken this step just to derail the college admissions for which the process is currently going on,” he said.

The college principal said that SSM College would take action against such people for deliberately defaming the college at the time of the “crucial admission process”.

However, Greater Kashmir has got access to a notification issued by the HoD Business School, Aijaz Ahmad Mistree wherein a group of students having below 50 percent attendance have been asked to report to the college on Monday.

“Following are the students who have failed to maintain the mandatory semester attendance and have attendance below 50 percent and for that they need to report to college positively on Monday (July 8, 2024) and contact the respective coordinator regarding the same for further process," reads the Notification No 2024/JULY/BS7 signed by HoD Aijaz Ahmad Mistree on July 6, 2024.

The students having below 50 percent attendance and who were directed to report to the coordinators said that those having 20 percent or below attendance were asked to pay a fine of Rs 12,500.

"Even our coordinator gave us relaxation of five percent attendance and asked the students to pay only Rs 10,000,” the students said.
