Rajouri, Jul 24: A heated exchange of words erupted between District Development Council (DDC) member from Doongi constituency Khalid Hussain and the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Rajouri district during a meeting held in Dak Bungalow Rajouri.

The meeting was convened at Dr. Raj Kumar Thappa memorial conference hall to review development works and projects in Rajouri district.

DDC Chairman Rajouri, Advocate Naseem Liyaqit chaired the meeting with members of council from across the district, MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed, MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary and MLA Kalakote - Sunderbani, Thakur Randhir Singh and senior officers of various departments were part of the meeting.

The meeting witnessed verbal duel initially between DDC member Doongi Khalid Hussain and MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan who exchanged remarks over sanctioning of new roads in the area with both staking claims to get the road projects approved to ease suffering of people.

The issue escalated further after MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed and MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary also intervened in the situation leading to verbal duel between three MLAs and DDC members.

The legislators accused DDC member Khalid Hussain of National Conference for creating chaos and unnecessarily disrupting the meeting proceedings.

Following this DDC Chairman Rajouri Advocate Naseem Liyaqit intervened and pacified the situation while asking all the members to stay calm and pay concern towards smooth proceedings of the meeting.

"A DDC member was trying to raise some issue out of context which we objected to and this led to verbal duel," MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed said.

He said the MLAs objected to unnecessary and baseless disruptions in the meeting.
