Vehicle with smuggled timber seized in Rafiabad

Kupwara, April 25:  A vehicle carrying illicit timber was seized on Thursday by the Forest Department in Rohama, Rafiabad, area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A team headed by Divisional Forest Officer Langate Izaz Ahmad while acting on a specific information about movement of a load carrier bearing registration number JK05A 5992 with illicit timber was intercepted at Rohama, Rafiabad and upon search of the vehicle almost 25 CFT Deador timber was recovered, following which the vehicle was taken to Forest Division Langate. Driver of the vehicle identified as Suhail Ahmad Sheikh resident of Shogapora Rohma was arrested on spot and handed over to Police.

DFO Langate Izaz Ahmad told Greater Kashmir that the department was steadfast in uncovering the timber smugglers. He said that strict action will be taken against those who are involved in timber smuggling. DFO Langate appealed to the general public to apprise him about timber smuggling so that those involved can be brought to justice.
