Vehicle crushes 60 sheep to death, injures 40 in Kulgam
Kulgam, May 11: A speeding tempo wreaked havoc in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday night, crushing 60 sheep to death and leaving around 40 injured.
The incident occurred along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in the Khudwani area of the district.
Parvaiz Ahmad, a herder, said that they were leading the flock from Lamad village to Dachigam for grazing when a speeding vehicle ran over the flock in the dead of the night, killing 50 sheep on the spot.
“Ten more died later while over 30 to 40 are injured,” he said.
Ahmad said that in the incident two of his fellow herders also sustained injuries.
He said that they were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The herders later staged a protest, demanding justice and adequate compensation for the loss incurred to them.
An official said that a case was registered and Police arrested the driver of the vehicle.
