Vehicle carrying illicit timber seized in Handwara

Kupwara, Jan 6: A platform truck carrying illicit timber was seized at  Satkoji area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said on Saturday late evening.

"During Naka checking at Satkoji Zachaldara one truck (platform) bearing registration number JK02S-7859 carrying four timber logs of Himalayan Cedar (Deador) was stopped. Upon enquiring it was found that the timber logs loaded on the vehicle were illegally acquired from the forest. Accordingly in response to it case FIR No 02/2024 U/S 379 IPC, 26 IF Act was registered and investigation was taken up,” a press release said.

It added that the driver of the vehicle Nazir Ahmed Wani of Behnipora was arrested .
