VCC welcomes frozen meat ban in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 4: The Valley Citizens Council (VCC) has welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s decision to impose a blanket ban on unsafe frozen and chilled meat products, describing it as a vital step to protect public health and ensure food safety. However, the council has simultaneously raised concern over the potential shortage of meat in the Valley, warning that the move could lead to steep price escalation, especially with the onset of winter.
In an official statement, the VCC Spokesperson said that while the decision reflects the government’s resolve to curb unhygienic practices and safeguard consumers, the sudden implementation of the ban without adequate alternatives risks creating a serious supply gap.
“We wholeheartedly support the intent behind the order but such abrupt enforcement may inadvertently hurt the local populace”.
