VC-JU inaugurates workshop on ‘Kathak technique used in Bollywood’
Jammu, June 14: Ten days workshop on the theme “Technique of Kathak used in Bollywood choreography” organised by Kathak Department, Institute of Music & Fine Arts was inaugurated by Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu in presence of students, faculty members and civil society members in the premises of IMFA on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion Vice Chancellor, Prof Rai congratulated the Kathak Department of IMFA for organising a meaningful workshop on a meaningful title. He said that the Music & Fine Arts had been given a vital place in the New Education Policy (NEP). “These types of workshops are meaningful for the students. The techniques of Kathak had played a vital role in Bollywood particularly in classical films. It is the need of the hour that traditional knowledge of Indian classical music and dance be provided to the new generation also,” said the Vice Chancellor. He appreciated the role of Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal IMFA along with Dr Priya Dutta, HoD Music and her team for organising musical functions frequently.
“IMFA is an important part of the University of Jammu. It will provide all types of facilities in the future,” said the Vice Chancellor.
Dr Priya Dutta, while speaking on the occasion, discussed the aims and objectives of the workshop. She informed that the students of Kathak Dance Department and the students from various schools of Jammu region were participating in the 10 day long workshop. She also informed that for the revival of Indian traditional culture, more and more workshops would be organised by the Music Department in the near future.
Earlier, in his welcome address Prof Shohab Inayat Malik highlighted various problems being faced by IMFA. He discussed in detail the problems of teaching faculty, non-teaching faculty and infrastructure facilities in the IMFA. He congratulated Dr Priya Dutta and her team for organising a meaningful workshop on a meaningful theme.
The workshop is being attended by 32 participants from IMFA and different schools from Jammu province. The workshop is being collaborated by Himalayan Education Mission, Rajouri.
Rajkumar Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme and also presented a vote of thanks.
Other faculty members present on the occasion were Sunil Raina, Suraj Singh, Dr Sumeet Madan, Dr Deepali Wattal, Bindu Sharma, Dr Jasmeet Kour, Dr Roshi Shaminotra, Rajesh Kumar, Dr Sujata Rajput, Vijay Kumar, Shivani Kapoor and Ankita Yadav.
