VC DDC Srinagar among 8 arrested for gambling, lodged in Central Jail
Srinagar, Oct 27: The Srinagar Police has arrested eight persons including the Vice Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Bilal Ahmad Bhat on charges of illegal gambling.
A top police official further identified the other accused as Shabir Ahmad Waza, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Tariq Ahmad Mir, Sajad Ahmad Chola, Sajad Hussain Bhat, Abass Ahmad Dharma, Arbaz Ayub Khan and Ishfaq Ahmad Wani.
The police official said that a raid was carried after receiving information about the gambling following which a case under FIR number 106 of 2024 under section 13 of Jammu and Kashmir gambling Act was registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar. As per the challan produced by Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Bhat along with seven others were apprehended during a raid. “During the raid the Police team seized the cards and recovered some cash from the possession of the accused on the spot. Other incriminating materials were also seized by the police,” the official said.
Further, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar sent all the accused persons to Central Jail Srinagar until the next hearing, after reviewing the instant challan produced by the police.
“The next hearing of this case is scheduled on November 7 of 2024,” the official said.
