V K Birdi takes over as IGP Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 9: Vidhi Kumar Birdi on Thursday took over as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone from Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar who has been posted as ADGP Law and Order, J&K.
V K Birdi, a 2003 batch IPS officer of erstwhile J&K Cadre – now AGMUT- has served in Jammu and Kashmir in many capacities.
He has also served in various capacities during his tenure on central deputation.
Birdi who did his Bachelor of Engineering and MBA was recently repatriated to J&K prematurely at the request of the J&K government.
At the time of his repatriation, he was serving as IG CRPF, Jharkhand Sector.
After joining J&K Police in 2003, Birdi served as SDPO Kothibagh Srinagar, SP City East Srinagar, SSP Kupwara, SSP Special Security Group J&K, DIG North Kashmir Range (NKR), Baramulla, and DIG Central Kashmir Range (CKR), Srinagar.
At the time of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A), Birdi was posted as DIG Central Kashmir range.
HOLDS FIRST MEETING
After taking over as Kashmir Police chief, Birdi held interactive meetings with DIG ranges and District SPs. The district and range heads of Kashmir Zone Police were directed to focus on quality investigation in terror crimes and narco terror-related cases to dismantle the terror ecosystem.
The IGP Kashmir stressed upon the officers to ensure improvement in the overall working of Police at the police station and sub-division level with refinement in record building and investigation.
He stressed the officers to make good public relations and focus on people-sensitive policing.
“Addressing public grievances should be the topmost priority of the Kashmir-based Police officials and officers besides their operational and crime-related commitments,” Birdi said.
He stressed on transparent and efficient policing with coordination with all sister agencies in Kashmir.
