Ramban, June, 28: The technical inspection on the Sangaldan-Reasi section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project was completed on Friday while the high-speed train’s trial run too was done successfully.

Commissioner Railway Safety Railways (CRS), Dinesh Chand Deshwal and his team completed a three-day inspection on the new 46-km Sangaldan-Reasi section of the USBRL project.

The CRS and his team started its inspection of motor trolleys on Wednesday.

Officials said the CRS and his team minutely inspected tunnels, bridges, tracks, and railway stations at Bakal, Reasi, and Sangaldan.

They said that the CRS and his team also successfully conducted the first high-speed train trial of a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) run on the new Sangaldan-Reasi electrified railway line or stations sections between the Katra and Sangaldan sections of the USBRL on Friday.

The 100 kmph high-speed train trail run started from Sangaldan and it took 30 minutes to reach Reasi.

Engineers of the Northern Railways Construction Division said it was a unique, first-time experience for all the engineers, architects, technicians, and construction companies’ workers working on the USBRL project to witness a successful high-speed test on the track passing through tunnels and bridges enroute Sangaldan and Reasi stations.

Officials said that earlier the CRS and his team checked the track, traction, telecom, signalling, platforms, and railway station infrastructures.

Meanwhile, CRS Deswal expressed satisfaction after riding on a train from Sangaldan to Reasi.

The first low-speed MEMU train trial run was conducted on June 20.

The 48-km route of the USBRL project has four stations – Sangaldan, Sumbar, Khari, and Banihal in the Ramban district.

The project was extended in February 2024 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it.

The Sangaldan to Reasi section of the USBRL project will likely start operation after the CRS Deshwal and his team submit the inspection report to the government.
