USBRL project likely to be completed by December

Ramban, July 22: The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project is likely to be completed by or before December 2024 as the work on a 3.2 km tunnel number 1, between Katra and Reasi section is in progress.

Sources said the work on 17 kms sections except tunnel 3.2 kms, tunnel 1, between Katra and Reasi is almost completed. The remaining work of the USBRL project once completed will provide all weather connectivity to valley Kashmir with the rest of the country, officers of Northern Railway said.

Union Minister Dr Jatendra Singh said the rail network will boost economic activities such as tourism and trade.   The Baramulla to Sangaldan rail line or link is already in operation and it will be extended up to Reasi any time as all the works and technical inspections had been completed and CRS inspection report was already submitted to the government.

The newly constructed 46 km long route from Sangaldan to Reasi section will pass through tunnels, treacherous newly constructed Chenab Bridge, world’s highest rail bridge in Reasi district.

Earlier, the 48.1 km long Banihal-Sangaldan section of the USBRL project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of February 20, during his Jammu visit.  All the eyes of people of Jammu and Kashmir are set on this ambitious USBRL project as it will  provide an alternative and a reliable transportation system to Kashmir.
