Ramban, Feb 15: Two-day inspection of Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on the new Broad Gauge (BG) rail line between Khari-Sumbar and Sumbar to Sangaldan on the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project commenced on Thursday.

According to official sources, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northern Circle, New Delhi, Dinesh Chand Deshwal, accompanied by senior railway officers from different sections, arrived in Banihal on Thursday morning and conducted a statutory inspection, for the opening of Khari-Sumbar-Sangaldan (33.42 km) new BG rail line, on motor trolleys from Khari-Sumbar and Sangaldan Railway Stations.

They said CRS and his team checked newly constructed Khari-Sumbar (13.65 km) and Sumbar-Sangaldan (19.50 km) rail lines on motor trolleys.

“The CRS and his team minutely checked track tunnels; bridges; electric traction installation tracks; Railway stations at Khari and other infrastructures,” they stated.

The first-day inspection concluded late Thursday evening at Sangaldan Railway Station.

“The second-day inspection will be conducted with a high-speed trial of the section by special train by the Commissioner of Railway Safety and his team on Friday,” official sources said.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety was accompanied by Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) of construction operations and concerned officers of Northern Railway, Firozpur Division.

Sources in the Northern Railway informed that this was the final inspection of the Khari-Sumbar section.

“CRS expressed his satisfaction with the track inside tunnels; bridges and electric traction installation on the track,” they said.

The general public was not allowed by the police and RPF to approach the rail lines in the Sangaldan–Sumbar and Sumbar-Khari Banihal sections during the trolley inspection of CRS.

The work on around 48 km Banihal to Sangaldan section of the USBRL project has been completed while the work on Sangaldan to Katra in Reasi district is also nearing completion.
