US warns of flight cuts amid ongoing Govt shutdown
New Delhi, Nov 6: US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has warned that air travel capacity could be reduced by up to 10% at 40 major airports if the ongoing government shutdown continues, reports the BBC.
The cuts, expected to impact domestic flights, come as air traffic controllers report fatigue and staff shortages, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
About 1.4 million federal employees, including air traffic controllers and park wardens, are either working without pay or on forced leave as Congress remains deadlocked over approving a federal budget. Unions have raised concerns that many affected workers are facing severe stress, illness, and financial strain, with some taking up secondary jobs to cope with the prolonged shutdown.
