US Senate passes funding bill to end record Govt shutdown
New Delhi, Nov 11: The US Senate has approved a key funding bill aimed at ending the longest government shutdown in American history.
The measure passed late Monday by a 60–40 vote, with most Republicans and eight Democrats supporting it. The bill would fund government operations until January 30 and ensure back pay for 1.4 million federal employees affected by the shutdown.
It also allocates full-year funding for the Department of Agriculture, military construction, and legislative agencies, while extending food assistance under the SNAP programme until next September. The legislation now moves to the House of Representatives, which reconvenes this week to consider it before sending it to President Donald Trump for approval. The shutdown, which began in October, has disrupted air travel, delayed thousands of flights, and suspended essential services across the country.
