Srinagar, Aug 08: The recently announced Srinagar to Kaman Post bus service was on Thursday welcomed by the locals of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

According to locals, the bus service ran from Srinagar to Kalgai area of Uri sending a wave of happiness among residents.

Aijaz Ahmad Yatoo, Vice President, Beopar Mandal Uri said that their long pending demand has been addressed by the concerned authorities.

“Finally, the bus reached Uri this morning and we gave a warm welcome to the bus driver and conductor with garlands,” he said.

“The bus service will bring a much-needed relief to a common man’s life in Uri, especially people from poor sections and patients who cannot afford daily cab fare to travel to Baramulla or Srinagar,” said Yasir Banday, a local resident.

Abrar Bhat, a local social activist who was also present on the occasion, expressed gratitude to the concerned authorities for starting this service.

“We are thankful to RTO Kashmir and the officials of Western Bus Stand Srinagar for running the bus service for the convenience of locals,” he said.

Residents of Uri have requested the officials of Western Bus Service Baramulla to allow the service to run without any interruption.

“We demand that it should not be stopped at Baramulla bus stand and move directly towards Uri,” they said.

Locals have also demanded for a change in timing while returning to Srinagar. “The bus should leave at 4:30 pm from Uri instead of 2:30 pm,” they added.
