Baramulla, Mar 25: The residents of various areas of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have expressed deep disappointment over the unscheduled power supply in their area especially during the month of Ramadhan.

The aggrieved residents said that although they have been paying as per the fresh flat rate fixed by the department of JKPDCL, however, instead of some improvement in the power supply, it has worsened further with the result that the entire population here is suffering.

“At the time of Sehri and Iftar we often face sudden disruption in power supply. During the day most of the time power remains off,” said Basharat Ahmad of Silkote Uri.

He said, “the residents of this area are facing unscheduled power cuts at a time when the authorities have increased the monthly electricity flat rate bills from Rs 350 to 1050 in the villages while around Rs 1500 in the Uri town,” added Basharat.

Earlier, in Feb this year, the residents of Nambla village, staged a protest against the sudden inflated bills amounting to Rs 1040.

They argued that people of this area have little means of livelihood as their area falls close to the line of control and they need some sort of relief from the administration.

“We are paying electricity bills as per the new flat rate. But we don’t receive electricity as per our schedule. This is complete injustice to us,” said Kamal Din of Nambla.
