Jammu, Mar 11: Amid the uproar in the House over the use of force on protesting dailywagers, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister while calling their issue as ‘humanitarian’ said that his government doesn’t control the police.

Following the Question Hour, the opposition raised concerns over the use of force against protesting daily wagers.

In response, the Chief Minister said that the opposition should address the issue where the police were actually being controlled.

"They are our own employees, and their issues are genuine. This is not a financial issue but a humanitarian one," he said.

He criticized the use of force, saying that the protesters should have been treated with compassion rather than lathi-charged.

The Chief Minister added that the police had not acted on his government's  directions.

He expressed hope that in the future, such protesters would be heard instead of beaten.

His remarks led to an uproar, with ruling party MLAs questioning why the opposition had failed to regularise these workers over the past decade.

It triggered a heated exchange with legislators from the ruling party shouting shame at the opposition.

Amidst a cacophony, the BJP MLAs staged a walkout.
