Uproar in Assembly: Speaker admonishes BJP lawmakers for disrupting Question Hour

Srinagar, Oct 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed uproar on Thursday after BJP lawmakers disrupted the Question Hour, protesting that the resolutions moved by their members were not taken up earlier by the House.

As soon as the Question Hour began, a BJP MLA stood up, objecting that his resolutions were ignored on Wednesday. The Speaker asked the member to take his seat and allow proceedings to continue, but BJP legislators persisted with their protest.

“Some of your questions were taken up yesterday, but resolutions could not be. I cannot help you in this,” the Speaker told the agitating members.

Visibly agitated, the Speaker admonished the protesting lawmakers, saying, “Boltey raho, boltey raho (keep speaking); we will continue with the Question Hour.” Despite his remarks, the din continued as BJP MLAs raised slogans demanding justice — “Humare saath insaaf karo, insaaf karo.”

Following the disruption, the Speaker allowed Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma to speak on behalf of his party. Sharma raised the issue of flood-hit victims in Kishtwar and other parts of the Jammu division.

“You don’t allow our adjournment motion to be discussed in the House. It’s not just about our resolutions — you are ignoring the pain and suffering of the people of Kishtwar,” Sharma said, accusing the government of shirking its responsibilities.

The ruckus continued, with BJP lawmakers persisting in their protest, forcing repeated interruptions to the proceedings.
