'Uphold dignity of elders’
Srinagar, Oct 1: International Elders Day was commemorated at Ahata Waqar Chanapora, in which people from different walks of life participated.
"Elders are treasure troves of experience and wisdom, which should be assimilated by the younger generations to enrich their souls,” said noted poet and social activist Zareef Ahmad Zareef.
The function began with the recitation of Quranic verses by Imam of Khan Gahi Jamia,Charari Sharief Nazir Ahmad Khateeb
Prominent religious figures, Maulana Ghulam Jeelani, ex Joint Director Sericulture, Hakim Mohd Yaseen and Prof. Qazi Altaf Ahmad shared the podium.
Zareef said elders play a pivotal role in the preservation of the heritage and culture. "They should in no way feel neglected by society. Their aspirations, well-being and rights should be honoured at all costs. Active role of elders in shaping communities.
and promoting an inclusive and resilient society.”
"On this day, let us take a pledge to advocate for the fundamental human rights of elders, ensuring their dignity and full enjoyment of life. The younger generation should be taught etiquette to respect the elders. The senior citizens should not feel a lack of care from society, which makes their life most stressful,” Zareef added.
Chairman Ahata Waqar, Abdul Gani Parray in his welcome address, sought the cooperation of the people to Ahata Waqar for serving the senior citizens. Secretary Er Khazir Mohd Trag also spoke on the occasion.
Organiser Qazi Ab Rashid and noted broadcaster Gh Hassan Rather recited poems to highlight the significance of elders.
