UPGRADED BALTAL-AMARNATH TRACK | ‘Vehicular movement for maintenance purposes only’
Baltal, Nov 6: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Monday sought to clarify that the vehicular movement on the upgraded Baltal-Amarnath Cave track was for maintenance purposes only.
“The vehicular road is for maintenance purposes only as the agency entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the Baltal-Amarnath Cave route should also have the necessary resources to carry out repairs quickly and efficiently, such as material, equipment, and personnel,” a senior BRO official said. “The track was narrow and difficult. The road widening will make it easier and safer for people to trek on this road or use ponies. The vehicular movement is specifically to be for maintenance purposes of this road in future as well.”
The BRO’s Project Beacon completed the widening of the road from Dumail to the Amarnath Cave via Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district, marking a significant milestone in this project.
The BRO has created history by expanding road connectivity up to Amarnath Cave shrine.
It is also for the first time, that the BRO would be maintaining the Amarnath twin tracks.
Earlier, the Public Works Department (PWD) was maintaining the Baltal track in Ganderbal and the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) was maintaining the Pahalgam track to the Amarnath Cave in Anantnag district.
In September last year, the Amarnath Yatra tracks were handed over to the BRO for both maintenance and upgradation.
The BRO has expertise in working on the mountainous track.
It has been working on several roads along the Sino-Indian border in Eastern Ladakh and other States where India shares the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
“BRO personnel completed the formidable task and created history with the first set of vehicles reaching the Amarnath Cave,” the BRO posted on X.
