Ganderbal, Nov 30: Residents across Ganderbal district have expressed strong resentment against the Power Development Department for what they describe as persistent and worsening unscheduled power cuts that have disrupted daily life, particularly over the past week.

Locals from several areas, including Nagbal, Beehama, Gund, Kangan, and adjoining villages, said the situation has deteriorated to the point where power supply remains unpredictable throughout the day. They said that despite repeated assurances, no improvement has been witnessed on the ground.

“It is shocking that instead of ensuring regular power supply, the department is resorting to unscheduled cuts,” said Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Ganderbal town. “Power woes have become a major concern for us. Even basic household work becomes difficult when electricity comes and goes without any schedule.”

Residents from Gund said the frequent outages leave them in darkness for hours. “Every day we face the problem of unscheduled power cuts only to find ourselves in complete darkness. The electricity is playing hide-and-seek, and no one in the department seems to care,” said a resident from the area.

People complained that even before the onset of harsh winter, the erratic supply has already made life difficult, raising concerns about how the situation may worsen in the coming months. They said school-going children, elderly persons, and patients are the worst affected.

Many residents urged the administration to intervene and direct the concerned department to adhere to proper curtailment schedules, ensuring timely and predictable electricity supply. They said that without corrective measures, the crisis will deepen as temperatures continue to dip.
