Sopore, Feb 25: Most residents of Sopore town are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) as these areas are facing unscheduled power cuts due to which the lives of inhabitants have become miserable.

People of this north kashmir town alleged that PDD doesn’t adhere to the curtailment schedule.

“Despite installation of smart meters, we do not receive proper power supply as per the winter schedule setup by the department. Frequent power cuts have become a daily routine now,” said Firdous Ahmad Shah, a local resident of Noor Bagh Sopore.

“Our exams are near and due to shortage of power we have to face a lot of hardships especially during night hours. We have been repeatedly asking authorities to redress our problems but to no avail,” said Adfer Jan, a student of 10th class.

Residents of different localities of town urged PDD to strengthen the power supply infrastructure so that genuine grievances of the consumers would be redressed. “Frequent power cuts have made the lives of common peoples miserable particularly students and business community as the pesky power cuts have become a cause of concern.”

The residents of various localities of town said that pesky power cuts are forcing them to reel under darkness. “Despite paying power tariff as per smart meters with the residents of areas falling under the municipal limits, the residents here are not being supplied adequate electricity as per schedule. We fail to understand the reason behind the worst kind of unscheduled power cuts,” residents said.

"We have brought these issues into the notice of higher ups of the department several times but their repeated promises have proved a hoax on ground,” they said.

Similarly, residents of various adjacent villages of town including Zaingair also voiced concern over erratic power supply in their respective areas since last one month.

They said that the situation has turned from bad to worse during the past one month. “Power cuts during evening hours have made our lives miserable,” residents said.

Residents appealed to the authorities to resolve this grave issue of pesky power cuts within the town so that they will not face more hardships.
