Union Ministers to lead Kargil Vijay Diwas padyatra in Drass
New Delhi, Jul 25: : To mark the 26th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat), will organise a ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Padyatra’ in Drass, Kargil on July 26, 2025.
The tribute march will be led by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, along with Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth. Over 1,000 participants, including youth, armed forces personnel, veterans, families of martyrs, and civil society members, are expected to join the 1.5-kilometre walk from Himabass Public High School to Government Higher Secondary School, Bhimbet. Following the march, the ministers and 100 youth volunteers will pay homage at the Kargil War Memorial, where wreaths will be laid in memory of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 conflict.
As part of the commemorative events, 26 women bikers from the Shakti Udgosh Foundation will be felicitated upon completing a tribute rally to the War Memorial.
A plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign will also be held, linking patriotic remembrance with environmental awareness and sustainable development goals under the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
Leading up to the event, MY Bharat has engaged local youth through essay writing, painting, elocution competitions, and interactive sessions to promote civic values, honour acts of bravery, and strengthen public engagement with the armed forces. This padyatra is part of the larger Viksit Bharat Padyatras campaign aimed at fostering national pride, unity, and participatory citizenship among the youth across the country.
